Grief and Loss with Foster Youth
Course Goals and Objectives
- Participants will increase their knowledge, awareness and understanding about sources of grief and loss as it relates to youth both in the community and in the foster care system.
- Participants will understand the connection between cognitive, emotional and behavioral symptoms and how they are manifested in response to a youth experiencing grief and loss.
- Participants will review the Kubler-Ross Grief and Loss cycle along with relevant research, DSM-IV diagnostic criteria and treatment interventions related to grief and loss.
- Participants will discuss the practical application of these ideas into their work with youth and families that are dealing with issues of grief and loss.
