Grief and Loss with Foster Youth

Course Goals and Objectives

  1. Participants will increase their knowledge, awareness and understanding about sources of grief and loss as it relates to youth both in the community and in the foster care system.
  1. Participants will understand the connection between cognitive, emotional and behavioral symptoms and how they are manifested in response to a youth experiencing grief and loss.
  1. Participants will review the Kubler-Ross Grief and Loss cycle along with relevant research, DSM-IV diagnostic criteria and treatment interventions related to grief and loss.
  1. Participants will discuss the practical application of these ideas into their work with youth and families that are dealing with issues of grief and loss.
